Some say the cost of barn converting equal to the cost of building a new house from the scratch or may even surpass it. Others on the other hand can somehow embrace all the formalities, design and building expenses within quite sensible budget, doing most of the work gradually and by themselves. It is known, each case is different. Generally speaking, the cost depends on the location and volume of building changes (how much you need to modify the existing structure, are there all necessary utilities on site, etc.).
What may be necessary at the beginning of you adventure with barn conversion? In Poland certainly a permit to change the usage of the building, architectural and building inventory, technical expertise. Roughly as many - in fact, it may be more agreements and permits necessary. Of course, before you decide to purchase a parcel with your dream barn it is necessary to check zoning plan of the area because it may turn out that you can not change anything on your location and the entire plan will fail. Anyway, except arming yourself with all the money waiting to be spent, arm yourself also with tons of patience because all the process can be time-consuming.
